Mr Ian Carlisle

Mr. Ian Carlisle, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon, has been a voluntary member of Interplast since its incorporation in 1983.  He has led numerous voluntary surgical teams and participated in educational programs to various locations in the Asia-Pacific region.

 

Ian was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2006 and chaired the Surgical Committee of Interplast for many years.

 

Currently, Ian is the Interplast Coordinator for Indonesia. He led the inaugural voluntary operating team to Indonesia in 1990 and has since visited several times each year as a representative of Interplast Australia.  He provided voluntary assistance in Java following the eruption of Mt. Merapi in the 90s; in Bali in the immediate aftermath of the first Bali bombings; provided his surgical expertise following the bombing of the Australian Embassy in Jakarta and assisted in the reconstruction effort in Banda Aceh following the tsunami disaster.  He has also led several surgical teams at Cabrini hospital caring for individuals sponsored by Interplast for surgery in Australia, including one of the guards who was badly injured in the Embassy bombing.

 

For several years, Ian led Interplast surgical teams in East Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo).  More recently, his focus has been on the islands of Nusa Tenggara (Eastern Indonesia).  Last year he led a team to Sumbawa in cooperation with PERAPI, the Indonesian Society of Plastic Surgery.  He has established many collegiate and professional relationships in Indonesia.  He remains committed to developing a professional and cooperative medical training program between Australia and Indonesia.

 

Ian has a Degree in Dentistry from the University of Queensland, and a Medical Degree from Melbourne University.  He undertook many years of specialist surgical training in Melbourne, Boston and Toronto before qualifying as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and being accepted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

 

A consultant at Cabrini Hospital and The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Ian is also Medical Director of The Erase Group.

 

He has 2 sons, 2 daughters and a grandson.  He and his wife Vivien and 2 younger children live in Malvern but spend precious spare moments on Raymond Island in East Gippsland, Victoria.
