Training

Interplast Australia is a recognized NGO and continues to provide training and development programs to assist the developing countries which are visited in Asia, the Pacific and Africa to acquire self-sufficiency in plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Voluntary medical teams of experienced reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses seek to achieve this aim by practical demonstrations in the operating theatres, by giving lectures and by bringing carefully selected medical staff to Australia and New Zealand for further training.

Teaching programs are tailored to suit the specific needs of each country as these vary enormously.

The intention is to convey basic principles vital to primary health care and to impart essential surgical skills to enable the local health practitioners to undertake more and more of the reconstructive surgery.

Training has become an increasingly important aspect of all Interplast programs and allows not only an opportunity to exchange knowledge and engender goodwill with colleagues in our neighbouring developing countries, but also enables many more patients to receive the benefits of modern reconstructive surgery.  More than 60 doctors and nurses have received Interplast sponsorship for further training in Australia.
