Unfortunately the scheduled burns program to Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City in February 2009 coincided with the devastating Victorian Bush Fires. The Victorian based Interplast team were left with no choice but to postpone their program to attend to patients at home. A reduced, but dedicated team of four volunteers departed four days later to honour their commitment to Cho Ray Hospital and the waiting patients.
15 patients were treated and training and lectures were provided to the staff of the plastic and orthopaedic surgery units. Dr Dao, head of the Plastic Surgery and Burn Unit noted his appreciation of “the working spirit of the Interplast team”. He reported, “The Interplast team have cured the burns patients effectively and also improved and provided our local doctors with knowledge.”
